Here you will find information about your child's learning journey in Year 4.

Pupils in Set 1 will study The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe by C.S Lewis and pupils in Set 2 will study The Iron Man by Ted Hughes. All pupils will write a story set in an imaginary world and as part of their non-fiction work, they will study recounts and reports and information writing. Pupils will complete weekly tasks in reading and comprehension, spelling and grammatical work.



Pupils will work with numbers to 10,000 and revise the four rules. They will also focus on shape, space and measure this term, primarily length, area and perimeter.



Pupils will learn about the skeletal system and the major organs of the body and their function. They will plan and carry out investigations in groups. They will also learn about what constitutes a healthy diet.



Pupils will be creating newspapers and sending and receiving emails using Hwb and Purple Mash.



Geography forms the heart of our topic this term. Pupils will study the human and physical features of hot and cold climates, with a focus on India and Baffin Island.



Pupils will learn about and re-create Aboriginal art.


Design and Technology

Pupils will be learning different joining techniques this term with a focus on sewing. They will be designing and making a wallet/purse suitable for travelling.


Personal and Social Education

Our community and the environment. Pupils will take part in circle time where a range of themes will be explored. Our local PCSO will also be visiting to give a talk on stranger danger.



Can we find peace? In this topic, pupils will be looking at pilgrimages and how different religions find peace. Pupils will also be learning about Hinduism.


Physical Education

Pupils will be taking part in creative activities such as folk dancing, as well as multi-skills tasks.



Pupils will study winter themed music and African music.



Pupils will be learning language for prepositions; they will also read and respond to our book study, ‘Yr Hen, Hen Ysgol’. Pupils will also be performing poetry as part of our school eisteddfod.




Homework is given out on Wednesdays and should be returned to school on Mondays.

Reading books and reading diaries are allocated specific days depending on your child’s guided reading day.
